To Popcorn or not to Popcorn?

A teacher stated online, that she played ‘popcorn’ during Guided Reading. She states that a reader begins to read then calls ‘popcorn’ and a child’s name and that child continues the reading. She continues to explain that the children are practising reading and are given choices of reading a sentence or up to a paragraph with the more confident readers reading longer.

Although there is a little more spontaneity as regards who would read next, I see this as Round Robin reading using another name.
